Writers on rafts is now closed

A huge thank you to all who entered, donated, and pledged prizes. Thank you also to The Oxygen Kiosk and Shopify for their generous donation of expertise in managing the website and ticket sales. This has been an enormous effort that has reached around the world and brought writers together to help people in need. We’re proud of you, our community, and what we’ve achieved together.

The winners will be posted here shortly after they have all been notified.

Together we raised almost $13,000 for the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal to support victims of the Queensland floods and tropical cyclone Yasi. These funds are to be immediately deposited to the Appeal and now we’re moving on to phase 2 of Writers on Rafts…

Tickets have just gone on sale for the Ultimate Girly High Tea, so don’t forget to purchase yours soon to avoid disappointment.

Hurry! Entries closing Friday 25 February!

Writers on Rafts has smashed through the $12,000 mark and just keeps going!
Entries close on Friday 25 February at 5pm so time is running short. We’re looking forward to seeing which prizes our lucky winners have selected and hearing about their experiences.

Look out for a big announcement about our huge fundraising event, The Ultimate Girly High Tea, which promises to be a whole lot of frilly fun for 200 lucky women at a fantastic location on 1 May. We’ll have more news in the next few days, so watch this site for our updates.

We’ve been overwhelmed with pledges of books and experiences from writers here and overseas, but sadly, with the deadline so close, we’re no longer able to accept donations. Thanks to all for your generosity and community spirit.

QWC is high, dry and gathering writers on rafts!

The effort to recover from these floods will require a whole lot of love, tenacity, and money, so Queensland Writers Centre (QWC) has gathered a group of the most determined writers we could find and we’ve built them a raft.

With Captain Rebecca Sparrow at the helm, Writers on Rafts is floating all over Australia raising support and dollars for the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.

More than 150 writers and writing organisations are on board including Nick Earls, Kate Morton, Tara Moss, Kim Wilkins, Emily Jade O’Keeffe, Frances Whiting, Jessica Rudd, Kate Hunter, Marianne de Pierres, PM Newton, and Venero Armanno, and Sydney Writers’ Festival, Byron Bay Writers Festival and Melbourne Writers Festival, who are all donating books, workshops, author talks, lunches and editorial to winners of QWC’s Writers on Rafts initiative.
